  • TNA Technical Committee - Response required by Friday 3rd February 2017

    Dear Member,

Following the EU referendum, it is expected that in the coming years there are likely to be a number of changes affecting our sector as we exit from the European Union and possibly the single market.

As would be appropriate for an organisation of our standing and recognising the needs of the sector, the TNA is revamping its Technical Committee.

We are anticipating that there will be changes in personnel at UK governmental level, as well as potential changes to standards and import tariffs. At that juncture, we will probably have to deal with many of the challenges as a UK grouping, since Frucom and other EU organisations may not have the capability and or remit to lobby successfully on our behalf with the UK authorities.

The Board is determined that the TNA Technical Committee is fit for purpose and is seen to be relevant to its members. The Board has suggested that TNA members be invited to put forward their priority areas of concern within the technical arena, covering the Tree Nut and Peanut sectors.

Those suggestions may vary from concerns over pathogens to issues resulting from the interpretation of a processing methods which could alter the tariff heading under which the product is imported, thereby changing the level of import duty – as is currently happening with Blanched Peanuts.

Whatever your suggestions maybe, we will be happy to receive them and advise you all, probably via circular, where the Technical Committee’s priorities will be for the year ahead.

In addition, we would also welcome member nominations to the Technical Committee and / or ad hoc working groups, if the member feels that they have a suitably qualified technical person who is able and willing to contribute towards the protection and development of our sector.

We look forward to hearing from you by Friday 3rd February.
